Welcome news

Over the course of the last ten weeks, some members from our Club have been playing in the Open Gender pennants .  Last weekend was the District playoffs and the Grade 7 team in which Sue Staples and Margaret Hickman had played won the pennant flag.  It all came down to other team results and Canton Beach managed to get 6 off their last bowl on last end against The Entrance which meant that Breakers had come out ahead. A very nerve wracking way to win pennants.  Grade 7 are now off to Northmead and Dundas to play in the State finals at the end of June.  We congratulate all the members of both Clubs and to all the players in the Grade Four side including our own Sue Newman for an excellent competition .  Special thanks to the Selectors for the excellent job they have done juggling teams and making sure everyone was eligible for the playoffs. Never an easy job.  

Sad news

 Sad news today that Kevin Dring has passed away after battling cancer .  His wife Pam Dring was a member of our Club for many years and served in many positions including President.  We send our thoughts and condolences to Pam and her family in this most difficult of times.  

Creighton’s sponsorship

 Creighton’s have been a generous sponsor to our Club for many years and we are very pleased to say that they have agreed to provide sponsorship again in 2023. 

This year, the sponsorship is providing a weekly winning rink award and quite a few of our members have already enjoyed receiving this reward for their hard earned wins.

Club triples decided today.

 We have new Club triples champions after end of play today.  Anna McLeod, Phyllis Betterridge and Sally Murphy carried their good form from the semis into the final today.  Last week we sweltered and today we were kept cool by the wind.  Sally’s team handled the conditions very well and set up a good lead halfway through the game.  Pam Brann, Sue Perdriau and Margaret Hickman tried hard but were beaten in the end 22/12.  Well played everyone and congratulations to the winners. 

Semi finals of Club Triples

 The semi finals of our Club Triples were played today. They were delayed by rain on Tuesday. The winners were Sally Murphy , Phyllis Betterridge ( sub Denise Wickman)  and Anna McLeod. They played Judy Brean , Helen Tristram ( sub Sue Jordan ) and Anne Nichols with the score 35/11. It was very hot today and 2 of the girls were affected by the heat and this led to the substitutes.  Phyllis can resume her spot on Tuesday.

In the second game, Pam Brann, Sue Perdriau and Margaret Hickman defeated Sue Newman, Carol Russell and Sue Staples 22/15.

The final will be played next Tuesday.
