Our Xmas Party/ Presentation Day is on 13th December.  It’s always a great day.  Could you please pay a $20cash  deposit by the end of November with the other $20 due by 6 th December.  We will be having a 2 course meal and enjoying the entertainment from our friend Tony who has played for us before.

As I said, a busy few weeks ahead with Summer Shield to be played on Tuesday 29th November.

An apology

I hope that many of you have been looking up information on this blogsite.  I have to apologise that anyone trying to look at any of the “committee, calendar, championship “ etc tabs will find them badly out of date.  Unfortunately there is no way for me to update these but if anyone reading this , can point me in the right direction , I will be very grateful.

Some updates

Firstly, some pennant news.  Unfortunately, our Grade 3 side ended up as second in our division .  Davistown pipped us at the post and they will proceed to sectional playoffs next week at Bateau Bay.  Congratulations to all our pennant squad and to the selectors in what has been a tricky season.  Thankyou to our Manager , Sue Perdriau , who organised all the paper work as well as playing some pennant games. Well done to all the “ newbies” who started their pennant careers in Division 3 .  A big learning curve but a great experience for all of us.

We held our AGM last Tuesday and we are in the process of finalising all our committee positions.  That will be settled by next Tuesday and we will be able to publish the final list.

At the AGM , we were able to present some Service Certificates and badges to some of our Club Members.  They were awarded to :-

Phyllis  Betterridge - 10 years

Pam Brann - 10 years

Margaret Hickman - 10 years

Sue Staples - 10 years

Rhonda McCubbin - 20 years

Fay Sims - 20 years

Margaret McCreadie -  30 years

2022 pennant news

Last Tuesday we had a good day on the greens at Terrigal , winning both rinks and bringing home all 5 points.  We play Davistown next Thursday 25 th August at home .  If we have a 5 point win , we will lead our section. That is a great result for us as our team has been made up of a few different combinations and a credit to everyone who has played .  Great team spirit and the support from other club members by coming to the games has really been appreciated.  Whatever the outcome, we have done ourselves and Breakers Women’s Bowling Club proud.

Changes to Social Bowls

We have moved social bowls from Tuesday 16 th August to Thursday 18th August - same time, same arrangements as normal.  The reason for this is we are playing pennants at Terrigal on that Tuesday and we need your support so come along!

Just a reminder about the ways you can put your name down to bowl with us.

1)The best way is to add your name to list after you bowl each week.

2)As well, you can add your name to that list by asking at RECEPTION at Breakers.  They have the list there as well. This is new!

3) We still have the mobile phone option for SMS messages only 0493234256.

4)  As well, you can ring the bowls office  on 43846335 on a Tuesday from .8.30 am .  This a good way to take your name off or to add your name at last minute because you have woken up and feel amazing and want a game of bowls.

No excuses now for not putting your name down. We want to see everyone here!

Pennant Results round 3

FYI. - we have just played Round 3 because we had a bye in first round.  YES , we are half way through our pennant rounds.

Our team played at Davistown today , and we had a win on the big board and on one rink which gave us a total of 4 out of 5 points available for the day.  A great result girls.  Kim’s team of Sue, Pam, Sue and Kim ( obviously ) came from behind and won.  My team with Carol as lead , Sue as second and Margaret as third had a great game, leading for most of the game but going down by 3 on the last end.  The green was faster than ours and there was a bit of wind to contend with, so well done again everyone.  Thanks again to Carol for being there as Club coach, to Noddie for helping out with big board, and to Sue Perdriau for doing the Manager’s role.

Pennant results for Round 1 2022.

Our Grade 3 pennant team played Terrigal last Thursday.  It was the first game of Pennants for four of our players  ( that is half of our squad !!). We did not have the numbers to form a Grade 4 division so did the right thing  ( we thought ) and pushed people up into Grade 3. They all did well and enjoyed the experience.  We won one rink but lost overall by only 1 shot .  Our next game is at Davistown on Thursday 4th August and we hope everyone enjoys the experience of playing pennants and representing Breakers .

The sheet is out to play in the Forrester’s/ Breakers challenge on Friday 26th August. This event has been postponed twice, so fingers crossed for a fine day.  Entry is via a sheet on Open Gender noticeboard.

The weather is fine and the greens are playing well. Come along and join in the fun !

Round 1 has been completed in our Minor Singles on a perfect day- lots of warm sunshine and very little breeze.  Sue Newman defeated Narelle O’Dwyer, Anne Nichols won against Pam Andrews and Sue Staples defeated Margaret Lind.  All good games and well done to some of our newer players who tried their luck in a game of singles.

State carnival 2022

We had 2 teams play in 2022 State Carnival. Sue Staples, Phyllis Betterridge, Margaret Hickman and Kim Trethewy have been to this carnival before, but this time down to the Shoalhaven area.  We played at Ulladulla, Nowra and Greenwell Point.  We won 3 out of 6  and had some close losses.  Pam Andrews, Narelle O’Dwyer, Margaret Lind and Denise Wickman played in their first State Carnival at Sussex Inlet, Nowra and Culburra. They came close in some of their games and felt happy about their bowls. All different greens, some extremely fast!!  Carol Russell played with her sister in a composite team. Everyone learned a lot about coping with very different greens and opponents but all agreed it was very enjoyable. We can recommend the meals at Shoalhaven Heads Bowling Club if you happen to be on the South Coast which is looking spectacular - so green.

Congratulations to Bateau Bay who had a team who reached the semi finals , and another team skipped by Julie Cox ( played with our club a little while ago), who won their section and the first game of the Final series.

Breakers Bowling Club has rescheduled their Autumn Carnival Charity Day for Saturday 21st May. Entry to the club by 11.45 am for a short sponsor presentation, followed by a game of bowls. There will be a $10 bucket drop to raise money for Central Coast Kids in Need. The charity supports families who have children in need of medical services.

Tuesday 26 April 2022

Generous donation

Thankyou everyone for your generous contributions today.  I have made a donation of $100 to the Emergency Action Alliance which will channel those funds to various Australian charities working in The Ukraine. They have made a pledge that 90  % of all donations will go direct to the charities e.g. Caritas .  There will always be an amount of money needed to process the donations .

Good luck to the 2 teams heading off to the State Carnival based around The Shoalhaven area next week.  I know they will do us proud.

Minor Singles entry is now open.  It is a great way to experience a game of singles, so put your name down on the entry form at bowls or ring Kim Trethewy to add your name.

Renewal notices for 2022  will come out soon . The Management Committee has set our fee for the year to  be $90.  $70 of that amount goes to Nsw Bowls, $5 to Central Coast District and the remainder stays with us to use in our Club. All fees will be paid at the Front Desk at Breakers but NOT until you receive your Renewal notice.

Thanks again for your support .  We had a good day on the green today but an even better one , enjoying each other’s company and support.  Well done everyone .

Thanks for forum feedback

Today , we held a forum so members could ask questions, bring up ideas and make suggestions for ways we can increase your participation in our bowling club.

From my perspective , I think it was a successful way to keep members informed and it acted as a space where people were free to air their opinions and ideas.

I was able to give information on our amalgamation with Mounties, and discussed the upcoming open gender Quad day which is creating a lot of interest.

Please let us know if you would like to order a Law book, and all incoming flyers from other Clubs will be displayed in a folder so you can come and see what is happening in other Clubs in our District.

All in all, I think our forum is an effective way for us all to be involved in the running of Breakers Womens Bowling Club and I thank you for your participation.

Observing Australia Day

We will be having some Australia Day activities on Tuesday 25/1/22 during social bowls.  You need to put your name down in the usual way but no uniform required that day.  You can wear some Aussie gear instead.   Bowls will proceed as normal but when we finish,  there will be a lucky dip along with the usual rink prizes and raffle.  If you wish to take part, you need to bring something that is MADE in Australia or GROWN in Australia that comes to about $5 in value. Put your thinking caps on and wrap your contribution so they are a surprise.

As well, we are going to see if we can pass the Australian Citizenship test. Looking forward to see you and joining in the celebrations.

Access to Breakers Country Club

Hi everyone,

I received an email from Breakers Country Club today saying that the Board has reviewed its policy on allowing unvaccinated people into the Club. From the 6th January 2022, Breakers will be allowing both vaccinated and unvaccinated people into the Club , while still adherring to mask wearing and social distancing rules. You will also be required to QR in and have temperature checks.

We also have a number of people on the sick list - just the NORMAL things like Sally with a break in her arm, and Bette with something torn in her shoulder and a couple of other members who need a bit of TLC! We are all thinking of you and sending you our best wishes for speedy recoveries. We are pleased to note NO covid, which we are very happy about. You are all doing a very good job, keeping yourselves , and everyone else, safe. We had a nice return to bowls today.

The weather was kind, lovely to play on the green that has been out of action for a while- we could not blame any bumps and lumps for stopping the bowls from doing their job. Food for thought!! Hoping to see you all on the green soon.
