Our last competition for the year was played today. The Summer Shield is a triples competition with the teams formed by a blind draw. Two games are played and the winners this year were Karen Kristoffersen, Sue Newman and Kim Trethewy. Congratulations to these girls and to all the members who put their names forward to play. Finally , a big Thankyou to Carol Allis who has sponsored this competition for a few years now. We certainly appreciate your generosity.

2023 -2024 Major Singles Champion
The final of our major singles was played today between Sue Staples and Sue Newman. The three hour long game was worthy of a final with both women playing beautiful bowls. Sue Staples kept herself just ahead with some well directed bowls but was always challenged by Sue Newman. When Sue S. reached 24, we thought the game was over but Sue N. replied by scoring a 4 and bringing her score up to 20. We were now into the 31st end and all wondered if Sue S could hold it all together to get the elusive 1 point she needed. As she has done all through a successful pennants season and in winning the District Pairs , she capped a great season by claiming the extra shot she needed to become Breakers Women’s Bowling Club Major Singles Champion. Well done to both players for providing such great entertainment for us all.

President versus patron Day
Our annual President versus Patron Day was held last Tuesday. Our patron Bette Townsend was with us and we celebrated the fact she had been a member for 30 years. A fantastic achievement. We took the opportunity to invite some of our previous members as well as some of our non playing social members and had a great day with a lovely lunch. The day was also our “ Suzy’s Turn around Triples” day sponsored by Sue Staples. Always good fun.

Some things to catch up on
It has been a while since we posted any news so here we go!
Pennant season is well under way - we are up to Round 8 this Thursday . We have had some wins, some losses, some close games and some ones we would rather not remember but we are still in the hunt in a very competitive section and it could be anyone to come out on top. We hope to finish these last 3 games well and then we will see what happens.
Our new President, Sue Staples , has asked me to remind everyone of an important day coming up. On October 17th , we have Suzy’s Turn around Triples scheduled , which is always a good day. Break out your mufti gear and make sure you put your name down at the Club as we need even teams of 6 . It’s a blind draw , so you don’t have to worry about putting teams together. Selection will do that.
After the game, we will be celebrating with our club Patron, Bette Townsend, and some of our long standing members , on their continued support for our bowling club. There will be a light lunch served before we head home. It will be a good day.
The annual Forrester’s versus Breakers challenge will take place on Friday 6 th October. Not far away. If you want to play please let Sue Staples or Margaret Hickman know asap.
Some of us were able to attend a lunch to raise funds for Elsie’s project which is our nominated charity for this year. It is a palliative care facility at Gosford Hospital, with another ward to open at Wyong in the next year or two. A very worthy cause
