The Summer Shield is a triples competition with the teams formed by a blind draw. Two games are played and the winners this year were Karen Kristoffersen, Sue Newman and Kim Trethewy. Congratulations to these girls and to all the members who put their names forward to play. Finally , a big Thankyou to Carol Allis who has sponsored this competition for a few years now. We certainly appreciate your generosity.

Our Christmas party is next Tuesday and Christmas mufti for social play on 19 th December please.

Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-60644294040471817552023-11-21T15:31:00.001+11:002023-11-21T15:31:13.528+11:002023 -2024 Major Singles Champion
The final of our major singles was played today between Sue Staples and Sue Newman. The three hour long game was worthy of a final with both women playing beautiful bowls. Sue Staples kept herself just ahead with some well directed bowls but was always challenged by Sue Newman. When Sue S. reached 24, we thought the game was over but Sue N. replied by scoring a 4 and bringing her score up to 20. We were now into the 31st end and all wondered if Sue S could hold it all together to get the elusive 1 point she needed. As she has done all through a successful pennants season and in winning the District Pairs , she capped a great season by claiming the extra shot she needed to become Breakers Women’s Bowling Club Major Singles Champion. Well done to both players for providing such great entertainment for us all.

Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-18635730240282241472023-10-18T16:33:00.005+11:002023-10-18T22:05:08.347+11:00President versus patron Day
Our annual President versus Patron Day was held last Tuesday. Our patron Bette Townsend was with us and we celebrated the fact she had been a member for 30 years. A fantastic achievement. We took the opportunity to invite some of our previous members as well as some of our non playing social members and had a great day with a lovely lunch. The day was also our “ Suzy’s Turn around Triples” day sponsored by Sue Staples. Always good fun.

)

Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-88907694388899052532023-09-27T20:12:00.004+10:002023-09-27T20:14:00.514+10:00Some things to catch up on
It has been a while since we posted any news so here we go!

Pennant season is well under way - we are up to Round 8 this Thursday . We have had some wins, some losses, some close games and some ones we would rather not remember but we are still in the hunt in a very competitive section and it could be anyone to come out on top. We hope to finish these last 3 games well and then we will see what happens.

Our new President, Sue Staples , has asked me to remind everyone of an important day coming up. On October 17th , we have Suzy’s Turn around Triples scheduled , which is always a good day. Break out your mufti gear and make sure you put your name down at the Club as we need even teams of 6 . It’s a blind draw , so you don’t have to worry about putting teams together. Selection will do that.

After the game, we will be celebrating with our club Patron, Bette Townsend, and some of our long standing members , on their continued support for our bowling club. There will be a light lunch served before we head home. It will be a good day.

The annual Forrester’s versus Breakers challenge will take place on Friday 6 th October. Not far away. If you want to play please let Sue Staples or Margaret Hickman know asap.

Some of us were able to attend a lunch to raise funds for Elsie’s project which is our nominated charity for this year. It is a palliative care facility at Gosford Hospital, with another ward to open at Wyong in the next year or two. A very worthy cause

Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-35275423022217655972023-09-05T15:56:00.000+10:002023-09-05T15:56:05.419+10:002023/2024 pennant season has begun
We played our first round of pennants today and came away with a win overall and 2 rink wins so maximum points. Last weekend was the District playoffs and the Grade 7 team in which Sue Staples and Margaret Hickman had played won the pennant flag. It all came down to other team results and Canton Beach managed to get 6 off their last bowl on last end against The Entrance which meant that Breakers had come out ahead. A very nerve wracking way to win pennants. Grade 7 are now off to Northmead and Dundas to play in the State finals at the end of June. We congratulate all the members of both Clubs and to all the players in the Grade Four side including our own Sue Newman for an excellent competition . Special thanks to the Selectors for the excellent job they have done juggling teams and making sure everyone was eligible for the playoffs. Never an easy job.
Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-36947105887755907452023-05-05T17:23:00.003+10:002023-05-05T17:23:41.459+10:00Sad news
Sad news today that Kevin Dring has passed away after battling cancer . We send our thoughts and condolences to Pam and her family in this most difficult of times.
Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-3549195363693670392023-03-27T21:16:00.000+11:002023-03-27T21:16:04.469+11:00Creighton’s sponsorship
Creighton’s have been a generous sponsor to our Club for many years and we are very pleased to say that they have agreed to provide sponsorship again in 2023.

This year, the sponsorship is providing a weekly winning rink award and quite a few of our members have already enjoyed receiving this reward for their hard earned wins.

The Creighton’s Winning Rink sponsorship is greatly appreciated by our club.
Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-86317535314127224172023-03-21T15:40:00.000+11:002023-03-21T15:40:15.964+11:00Club triples decided today.
We have new Club triples champions after end of play today. Anna McLeod, Phyllis Betterridge and Sally Murphy carried their good form from the semis into the final today. Last week we sweltered and today we were kept cool by the wind. Sally’s team handled the conditions very well and set up a good lead halfway through the game. Pam Brann, Sue Perdriau and Margaret Hickman tried hard but were beaten in the end 22/12. Well played everyone and congratulations to the winners.
Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-10349318569994644472023-03-16T15:01:00.002+11:002023-03-16T15:01:29.754+11:00Semi finals of Club Triples
The semi finals of our Club Triples were played today. We have a new umpire in our ranks which is great. Anne Nichols has completed her umpire’s course and has been able able to practise her skills during the Club Pairs which is running at the moment. We really appreciate that she has taken the time and effort to take on this role.

Our Club pairs have been running and the final will be between Sally Murphy and Denise Wickman playing Sue Newman and Anna MCLeod . The game played today between Anna’s team and Margaret Hickman and Kim Trethewy was very exciting. Sue and Anna got off to a great start with some accurate draw bowls. The spectators were drawn into the game when Kim’s team came from 10 shots down to be behind by only 1 shot going into the final end. Accurate draw bowls from Sue gave them the shots and the final score was 25 to 20. Congratulations to very worthy winners and the final on Thursday should be very exciting. You won’t be disappointed if you come along to have a look.

Club triples has been posted so reach out to other players and put a team together.
Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-33405961173203855172023-01-23T00:13:00.002+11:002023-01-23T00:13:34.695+11:00Tuesday bowls 24th January
Next Tuesday , we will be celebrating Australia Day early , so come along in your Australia Day mufti gear if you like. She lost her battle with melanoma which had been very unkind to her over the last few years. Judy was a member of Breakers Women’s Bowling Club for 18 years and had been a member of Social, Match and Selection committees during those years. Judy was always ready for a joke and got up to a bit of mischief with her team mates over her bowling career. She was always ready to act as controlling body or to step in whenever a team was short handed. We miss her kindness and send our condolences to her family. Her funeral is today at Greenway at 12 noon.
Marghickmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15196233588879570429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5028491907653436241.post-80345647494941205712023-01-02T17:25:00.001+11:002023-01-02T17:25:20.076+11:00Welcome to 2023!
Hi everyone.

Happy New Year to you all and best wishes for another successful year on the bowling greens at Breakers.

We will resume bowls tomorrow - 3rd January , but at a slow and relaxed pace.
