Let’s talk bowls with Suzy

Good morning all...another Tuesday passes by...which means were getting closer to our return....

LETS TALK BOWLS...ARE YOU AWARE ?

Markers responsibilities.

Q1....May a marker lift a bowl at rest on her own rink which is likely to be disturbed by a bowl in course from an adjacent rink ??

A1....NO...A Marker must stop any bowl that is from a neighbouring rink that could move a Jack or Bowl that is at rest.....

Q2....May a Marker remove a bowl near the boundary line that they believe is dead....

A2....NO...The Marker must converse with both players before the bowl is deemed as dead/alive ...and then removed/ or left in play.

LETS LEARN LAWS...29.4.2

Failing to play a bowl.
If  a bowl has been played by each team before the players discover that one of them had failed to play a bowl in the proper order, that player will lose the right to play that bowl..

....Focus on your game...

Till next Tuesday....keep smiling  πŸ˜Š

Keeping in touch

Good morning everyone.
It’s now 6 weeks since we played bowls but every day we are getting closer to that return date.  No doubt that return will come with some challenges but just as we have coped with our isolation, I know we will be able to find a way to continue to play the game we love. I had a catch up phone call  from Ken Pearson yesterday and assured him that our Club was itching to get back on the green.  Ken and his team are working hard to get us back to Breakers as soon as we can.
Two birthdays this week, Denise Wickman on 29th and Julie Cox on 30th. Happy birthday and enjoy your celebrations.
For those of you who knew Ken Hinchcliffe, he will be farewelled by his family this coming Friday. Sadly, we cannot be there to say our goodbyes but we have sent our commiserations to his family and  reassured them that his driving ( bowls not cars) will long be remembered by all who shared a rink with him!
Finally, to finish on a lighter note-
“ I didn’t think orthopaedic shoes would help - but I stand corrected!!!!”
Stay stay everyone

Let’s talk bowls with Suzy

Tuesdays on my mind.. another beautiful day for bowls..πŸ€—

Let's talk Bowling.
Bowls terminology..

1..Neutral Objects...C23...
.A neutral object is a Jack, Bowl or any other object NOT belonging to any player on the rink of play....
...OR...a line jack or a line bowl( on boundary line) belonging to a player on the neighbouring rink..
...OR...a dead bowl that  is at rest and has not been removed from the rink of play...

LETS LEARN LAWS...38.1.3..displacement of a Jack at rest.

A final bowl was delivered in a match, moving the jack near the boundary line..The Third in team A, without checking with her opposing third  or skips picked up the jack thinking it was out of bounds..the opposing third objected...

WHAT should happen ?? ...The jack would be deemed to have been displaced by a player and Law...38.1.3 would apply...The opposing third would put the jack back to its former position and a decision would be made to as whether the jack is still alive.....

Note...never pick up a line Jack without conversing first with the  opposition as to whether the jack is alive or dead...

Till next Tuesday....keep active...😊

Keeping in Touch

Good morning everyone .  A busy week for birthdays with Sandra Brammall’s big day on 23rd and myself  for yesterday, celebrating in style ( not quite what we had imagined ) but happy to be healthy and safe at this time .  I hope your family look after you Sandra. I can recommend takeaway from French restaurant in Terrigal. Very good.
I have started to think about our return to bowls ( whenever that will be). The management committee had discussed the idea of an introductory package for new bowlers. Now we have all this time on our hands, can you put your thinking caps on as to what you think that should include? What would have made life a bit easier for you when you walked in on your first Tuesday ?  Would a “ buddy”  to look out for you for a few weeks have made things better? Have a think and let me know.
Just to make us very envious, our greens are looking great - they have certainly appreciated the rest. I have also found that the Break has been a good chance to live life in the slow lane for a while .  We will all go back to bowls with renewed energy and enthusiasm , instead of being worn out by the pennant season.
Cheers for now

...Tuesdays on my mind...another beautiful day for BOWLS...😊

LETS TALK BOWLS..
Learning Bowls Terminology

1.. Neutral Person...a neutral person is one who is  not a player on the rink of play..this includes the Marker and the Umpire.
.... example ..if you deliver the jack and it hits the foot of a neutral person (marker) on Your rink of play the jack would be sent back to YOU for redelivery...

2..Jack in Origional Course....is from its delivery until until it comes to rest.

3..Jack in Motion....is a Jack which is moving during play after it has been at rest as part.of the head..

example...if a player delivers their bowl and it hits the jack and the jack moves ,the jack is deemed to be...a jack in motion....

LETS LEARN LAWS....LAW  38.6
If a jack at rest on the rink is in danger of being moved by a bowl from a neighbouring rink, any player at the head or the marker in a singles game MUST stop the bowl..If the bowl was in its original course and was delivered on a bias that would have taken it back to its own rink , the bowl must be replayed.
....Remember...Watch Your Head..🀯

TILL NEXT TUESDAY....
Take care ...

Keeping in touch 14/ 4/20

Good morning everyone.
A beautiful day - getting a bit cooler in the mornings but lovely to get out in the sun during the day. I hope you are able to do that sometime ,somehow! I hope you were able to enjoy a very different Easter but it is amazing how people have managed to work out ways to do that.    For those of us who got our bowls fix watching the Bowls Show on Sunday, we were reminded to continue to do some lunges  while we are in “iso”. Just practise your delivery step, putting weight on that front leg. We don’t want any injuries when we do get back on the green.
The other bit of news I have is that Bowls Australia has set up a working committee to look at aspects of governance around Australia. There are representatives from every state and I am hoping we may get some solid guidelines on the amalgamation process for NSW.  The report is due out in June. I have my fingers crossed!
I spoke to Yvonne and Jean last week and they are both doing Ok - keeping busy .  Fay Brunner is busy as well - she has worked out a new way to keep her floors clean - her broom has become her new dance partner and she says it works really well so maybe we should all give it a try!
Stay safe everyone

Let’s talk bowls with Suzy

CONSENTRATION...Centre, Focus ,Visualise.

Your Pe-Shot Routine.... you can start your PSR prior to getting  on the mat ...do the same routine....before each delivery .
..don't turn your back on your bowl till it has come to REST..

CONSISTENCY...Practice and use your routine..laying a solid foundation in your PSR in your delivery set up..Is where consistency begins..

CONFIDENCE ..Believe in yourself ...be positive in the shot your going to play...if it doesn't work the first time...have another try...it's through our confidence and patience our game will bring us joy...

LAW.....34

Objects on the green...
Under no circumstances, other than those approved , must any object be placed on the bank, the green,in the ditch, on the jack, on a bowl or anywhere else to help a player...

Till next Tuesday..
.any questions please let me know....

Let’s make a rug

The Facebook group have accepted the challenge of knitting some 12 inch / 25 cm squares while we are all in “iso”. ( I am told that is the latest term for isolation ) we are using 8 ply and 4 mm needles ( 8 in old scale).  55 stitches. They can be plain like mine or as fancy as you want. Barb Hilliard, I am nominating you to show us how to join them together when we get back!  We will donate it to the refuge.  I want to hear those knitting needles clicking.🧢🧢

Keeping in touch

Good morning everyone.  Check your emails for “ Keeping  in Touch”  today.  Suzy’s tips will also appear so keep checking.

Let’s talk bowls with Suzy

Each Tuesday , Sue is going to continue with her helpful tips. This was from 31/3/20.
Tip.
If you are standing on the mat ready to deliver your bowl and you look up and see your SKIP indicating she wants you to change your hand....step back off the mat...then step back on the mat and restart your delivery with the required hand .  This will help to eliminate bowling a wrong bias.

LAW..tied end..no shot scored
If you are playing on a very fast rink...and the jack is on the tee...and all bowls played have entered the ditch with NO touches.
Question... do you count this end on your score card?
Answer.... Yes, the jack is live, but no live bowls are left within the boundaries of the rink of play...LAW 24.2.. the end must be declared TIED and recorded on the scorecard as a completed end...with no shot scored by either team

STAY TUNED FOR NEXT TUESDAY’S TIP!

I need to make a correction about the birthdays. Fay’s birthday is on 7th April along with Sally Murphy. That combined birthday party is looking more and more like the place to be. Best wishes everyone.

Happy birthday wishes to Di Bevan for Friday.  All the best from your bowling buddiesπŸŽ‚πŸ₯‚Fay Brunner is also celebrating her birthday on Friday. What a shame you two can’t get together. A lot of dancing would happen at that party
